Little boy learning to brush teeth in our Camas dental office.Often referred to as general dentistry, family dentistry focuses on preventive care, diagnosis, and treatment of the gums and teeth. At Camas Dentistry, our family dentist enjoys working with people of all ages, from older adults to young children. No matter your age, we will make you feel comfortable when you visit our office in Camas.

No matter the age of the patient, oral health is very important to self-esteem and overall health. In fact, studies show that the health of your entire body mirrors your oral health. Having a healthy smile may prevent multiple diseases later in life. Taking care of your teeth and gums is not just important for the way your smile looks, it is important for your overall health as well.

It is so important to start good oral hygiene habits at an early age. Good oral hygiene and routine visits to the family dentist will ensure that the patient has a healthier life in the future. For this reason, you need to make sure that young children are brushing and flossing their teeth, as well as using mouthwash. Children also need to have regular dental visits to keep teeth clean and healthy.

The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends a routine check-up up roughly twice a year. A routine appointment with our doctors will typically include a professional cleaning and a detailed examination of your teeth, gums, and other oral tissues. We may also recommend an oral cancer screening for our older patients.

Maintaining good oral hygiene is vital if you want your teeth to stay strong, functional, and attractive. Apart from regular brushing and flossing, it is also necessary to keep your dental appointments with us regularly. You should visit us at least twice a year for a professional cleaning to ensure you have excellent dental hygiene and your teeth and surrounding structures are healthy.

Cancer screening can be a frightening scenario for some people, but it should not be. The truth is oral cancer screenings done consistently offer you the opportunity to discover problems early when they can be treated more easily and successfully. If you have questions about our oral cancer screening procedures, then please visit our office so our professional staff can guide you through the procedure.

Professional dental care is a crucial part of your child's oral health. Be sure to schedule your child's first appointment by the time their first teeth erupt, or before their first birthday. Scheduling regular appointments allows us to monitor the development of their oral health. Developmental problems are easier to treat in the beginning stages. As your child grows older, we can establish a strong foundation for their oral health, one that will ensure a lifetime of healthy, beautiful teeth.

Your periodontal (gum) tissues are just as important as your teeth. Periodontal disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in the United States. Periodontal disease is the result of an infection in the gum tissues, connective ligaments, and eventually the alveolar bone.

The disease is characterized by gums that are swollen, red, and tend to bleed during brushing and flossing. Luckily, periodontal disease is easy to prevent and treat if it is caught early enough. If we notice signs of advanced periodontal disease, we may recommend a scaling and root planing procedure. The goal is to return your gums to a pink, healthy state.

Maintaining proper oral hygiene is more than a simple focus on brushing and flossing your teeth twice daily but also caring for your gums and keeping them healthy. Periodontal diseases can be quite serious and difficult to treat. If you want to encourage gum health and be certain you do not contract a gum infection, good gum hygiene and periodontal maintenance are the key, and we can help.

Fluoride is a naturally-occurring mineral found in many of our foods and beverages. It is also a useful tool in fighting tooth decay. Every day, our teeth lose and gain minerals through the processes of demineralization and remineralization. If the process of demineralization exceeds that of remineralization tooth decay will occur. Professional fluoride treatment allows us to supplement the process of remineralization and prevent potential decay. It can even reverse minor instances of decay. Fluoride treatment is particularly beneficial for patients at a greater risk of tooth decay, such as children, teens, and seniors.

Contact sports or sports with moving objects can be a very dangerous environment for your teeth. One extreme tackle or a ball hit into the mouth can do serious, sometimes permanent, damage to the jaw and mouth. If you participate in physical activities that put you at risk for dental trauma or injury, we strongly recommend a custom made sports mouthguard.

If you participate in physical activities that put you at risk for dental trauma or injury, we strongly recommend a mouthguard. A mouthguard will protect your teeth and prevent dental emergencies. If you suffer from bruxism (teeth grinding), we may also recommend a night guard. Many patients with bruxism tend to grind their teeth during sleep. A night guard acts as a barrier that prevents enamel wear.

Sleep apnea is characterized by the repeated cessation of breathing during sleep. There are three main types of sleep apnea: obstructive, central, and complex. Obstructive sleep apnea is the most common form caused by the relaxation of the muscles in the throat. We offer oral appliances to alleviate the symptoms of sleep apnea. An oral appliance can provide you with safer and more restful sleep!

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ), allows us to move our joint forwards, backward, and side-to-side. Any problems that prevent us from using this joint properly are known as TMD or temporomandibular joint disorders. We provide some treatments designed to alleviate any pain or discomfort associated with the TMJ.

We recommend that both children and adults visit their family dentist twice each year for a cleaning and a routine exam. Our dental exams include the gums, teeth, neck & head muscles, and soft tissues, which involves looking for any discolorations, ulcerations, lumps, or swelling.

The dental cleaning focuses on removing hard and soft deposits from your teeth, ensuring that teeth are smooth and clean. Clean, smooth teeth make it easier for you to keep teeth clean with regular brushing and flossing at home.

Make routine dental care a family affair! Consider booking the entire family for bi-annual exams and cleanings with our family dentist at Camas Dentistry. We are happy to work with you to find appointment times that best fit your busy schedule. Call us at 360-837-5992 to schedule an appointment.
